Johnsen retiring as superintendent

Tooele County School District Superintendent Mike Johnsen will retire next month after three years as superintendent and 40 years with the district as a high school teacher, coach and administrator. Johnsen, 63, surprised the school board with the announcement last week in a closed session. His last day with the district will be June 30.

Identity theft cases on the rise locally

Chances are you have probably written a check at the grocery store, mailed bills from your mailbox, shopped online and casually discarded credit card offers before without giving these matters a second thought. And that is just what identity thieves would like you to do. As many as 9 million Americans fall victim to identity theft each year, according to the Federal Trade Commission. And evidence suggests more and more county residents are falling into the trap with them.

Building a Legacy

Fred Hale, 78, is co-owner of Hale Construction along with his son Ken. Ken's two sons, Ryan and Austin, and son-in-law Scott Webb, also work in the business. Up until 12 years ago, Fred's other son Craig also worked for the company. He currently lives in St. George, but still works in construction. Fred, who worked for the Tooele Army Depot for 35 years, first got started in construction when he decided to build a house for himself.

Palmer crowned first-ever girls state champion

Tooele High's Sadie Palmer prevailed at the 4A/5A state girls golf tournament Tuesday by shooting a 3-under 68. Being able to breeze through all of their region matches Tooele had their work cut out for them as a team, having to beat all the 4A and 5A schools to be crowned a state champion at Davis Park Golf Course.
