The West Elementary School Lions had a goal to walk across Africa on a safari, a total of 9,000 miles, this year. The students at Ibapah School had a goal to walk 700 miles to visit Glacier National Park. Both schools ended up walking much farther than they expected.

When former Tooele Mayor Bob Swan passed away in February, Dan Tuttle stepped up to the plate on Capitol Hill as Tooele County's lone local lobbyist, keeping track of bills that could impact the county. His work pinch hitting in the middle of the session impressed county commissioners enough to give him the job permanently last week.

'Young @ Heart' breaks the mold for documentaries

At first I thought a documentary about elderly people singing "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones wouldn't turn out so well. But after realizing Young @ Heart was an actual chorus that met regularly and had some talent, I didn't think it would be so bad. Now, I know it's the best documentary I have seen all year -- although there haven't been many -- and is a really great movie all around.

The lobby and hallways at the school district office were filled with examples of students' work. There were cedar chests, chess boards, bed frames, signs done in metalwork, food, computers, diagrams on how to draw blood, business plans, marketing displays, and much more.
