Love for the post office and community

Just a short clarification to the letter to the editor titled "New post office needed" in the April 22 edition of the Transcript-Bulletin. I am the clerk retiring April 30. I find the insinuation that because I am retiring I don't care about the post office to be insulting. I have lived in Tooele 58 years. My family moved to this wonderful community when I was 4. The Tooele Post Office has been a part of my life since that time. My sisters and I would slide down the smooth areas that border the entrance stairs to the front door of the post office while my mother was inside conducting her business. My mother taught me a love of stamps early on. She always purchased new issue stamps -- something pretty for cards and personal correspondence, and flag stamps for bills and business items. I have loved working for the post office in Tooele -- great co-workers and great customers. How someone could ever have heard words that I did not care about the post office because I was retiring is beyond me. I have never felt nor said any such thing as was indicated. I know we need a new post office with more space for postal operations inside and more parking outside. For the record, I would like that new post office built in the current "downtown" area of Tooele. I do care about the Tooele Post Office employees, customers and where it is built. I do care about and love the community of Tooele. It is my hometown.
