Special Olympics
The Tooele County Giants, a Special Olympics team, is now getting ready to start practice for track and field events. Join us Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m., for practice at the GHS track. Anyone 8 and older with a physical and/or mental disability is encouraged to be part of our team. After practice we will meet at Grantsville City Park and celebrate with a barbecue. Overlake homeowners meeting
The Overlake Homeowners Association annual meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, March 20, has been moved to Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m., at the old Tooele County Courthouse, 47 S. Main St. All Overlake homeowners and interested residents are invited to attend. Notification of the meeting will be sent to each homeowner in the upcoming newsletter. Big Fix
The Big Fix Discount Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic will be at Wal-Mart on March 31 and at Westgate Mortgage in Grantsville on April 1. Both locations are first-come-first-serve. Walk-up micro-chipping and vaccinations available to anyone while veterinarian is at the premises. A $5 processing fee applies to clients getting vaccinations only. Pioneer stories sought
The National Society of the Sons of Utah Pioneers is soliciting pioneer stories. These stories will be available worldwide to your family and friends on the Internet at www.utahpioneers.org and will be preserved in a special collection in the national SUP library in Salt Lake City. A selection of these stories will be published in the popular Pioneer Magazine. Stories should be between one and 10 pages and illustrate the character traits that typified the life of the pioneer ancestor. Those interested in submitting stories should get details on the SUP Web site, www.utahpioneers.org.
AARP Safe Driving
Mountain West Medical Center's Senior Circle is sponsoring the AARP driving course on Thursday and Friday, March 27 and 28, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. each day. Both days are required to receive a certificate, which may decrease your auto insurance costs for three years. The cost is $10, payable at the first class. On May 10, the Preeclampsia Foundation will hold its fourth annual National Awareness Walk in Tooele. The walk will start at Veteran's Memorial Park. UNEV Pipeline Open House
A public open house to inform Tooele County residents and answer questions about the UNEV Pipeline will be held March 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Copper Canyon Elementary School, 1600 N. Broadway, Tooele. The open house's format is as follows: 6:30 to 6:45 p.m. sign-in and exhibits, 6:45 to 8 p.m. formal presentation, 8 to 8:30 p.m. experts and exhibits.

Old Folk Sociable
Grantsville Old Folks Sociable will be held Saturday, March 29, at Grantsville High School. Tickets are $15 in advance or $17 at the door. The car show will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., honored guest reception at noon, honored guest dinner at 1 p.m., program at 2, 4, or 6 p.m., dancing from 4 to 11:30 p.m., and a 5K run at 10 a.m. Tickets will be presold at Casa del Rey, Grantsville City Hall, Handy Corner, Soelberg's, Way Station, Williams Family Video, the Transcript-Bulletin and Walgreens. The GHS class of 1973 is having their 35th class reunion Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m., at the Golden Corral, 8860 S. Redwood Road. St. Patrick's Day games
Join us for St. Patrick's Day fun with a few games at the Tooele Library. For the "Hidden Treasure," see if you can locate all the gold coins. Fill out the number you found on the "Pot-o-Gold" sheet and get a prize. This game is for children ages 3 to age 6, and will run though March 27. Then test your knowledge with our "St. Patrick's Quiz." The answers are in plain sight at the library. Bring your quiz sheet to the front desk and receive your prize. This game is for ages 7 through 12.
Special story time
A special story time on Friday, March 21, at 1 p.m., at the Tooele Library, will feature Biscuit. Listen to some very funny stories about Biscuit, read by Angie Wager from the Barnes and Noble in Jordan Landing, and see our special guest Biscuit! Coloring sheets with Biscuit will be given out.
Bookmobile
The Tooele County Bookmobile Library in Grantsville has canceled story time for Thursday, March 20. Story time will resume on March 27, at 4 p.m., at Grantsville City Hall.

Adult Education
Get your high school diploma this year! All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, driver's education and English as a second language are available. Register now to graduate -- just $35 per semester. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 a.m. and Monday and Thursday nights from 4 to 8 p.m. The center is located at 76 S. 1000 West, and can be reached at 833-1994. Adult education classes are for students 18 and over.
GED prep
The Tooele Adult Education Center is offering a GED preparation class on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. The class will start March 26 and end May 7. Cost is $35. High school credit may be earned at the same time you are preparing to pass the GED and five credits can be added to your high school transcript once the GED is passed. Adults learn to drive
A driver education course for adults 18 and over will begin Tuesday, April 1, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the center. The class includes 18 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of driving and observation. Register from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $175 (current students receive a $70 discount).
Hunter Education
A Hunter Education class is being offered on April 4, 11, 18 and 25, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., at the Grantsville Fire Station. The shooting test will take place on April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Lee Kay Center in Salt Lake City. Each student will need to purchase a voucher from any outlet that sells hunting and fishing licenses and bring it on the first night of class. Food pantry
The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to help meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs -- adults and children -- are welcome. Charity luncheon
The Ladies of the Elks will host their annual charity luncheon on Saturday, April 5, at 11:30 a.m., at the Elks Lodge, 61 N. Main St. Barbecue and all the fixings, entertainment, great door and raffle prizes. Lunch is $10. Raffle tickets are available at the Elks. Run Against Violence
"Run Against Violence," the DVSAVA Crisis Line's annual 5K run/walk, will be held April 12. There is a $15 registration fee, however, infants and toddlers in strollers are free. To learn more about the race or to register go to www.dvsava.org or the Maceys service desk. All participants will receive a free T-shirt and be entered into a drawing. All proceeds will benefit the DVSAVA crisis line and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Tooele County.
Food donations needed
Scouting For Food will be held Saturday, March 29, starting at 9 a.m. Scouts will distribute bags beginning March 24. Please leave bags with food on the front steps of your home. The Moose Lodge in Tooele regularly hosts Thursday night dinners for $5. The event will start at 6 p.m. Cost is $5. On Saturday, March 22, the lodge will host an Easter egg hunt from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday night fish and chips dinners are held at 6 p.m. Free pool. Saturday night rib-eye steak dinners are held from 6 to 9 p.m. This is a smoke free environment. Come out and enjoy yourself at the Moose Lodge.
