Week of fun for kids

Garden tour

This coming Saturday the Tooele County Master Gardeners will host a garden tour of delightful landscapes in the communities of Tooele Valley. Enjoy a visit to pretty gardens and get ideas for your own garden. The gardens will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Get your map at Speirs Farm, 392 West 200 South in Tooele, or at Gary and Janet Fawson's home, 187 North Waterhole Way for a donation of $5 per person to the Master Gardener's association.

Kiwanis 5K Freedom Run

The Tooele July 4, 2007 race begins at 8:30 a.m. near the LDS church at 777 East Skyline Dr. Runners are urged to sign up in advance at Century 21 McAffee Realtors, 768 N. Main, Prudential Real Estate, 205 N. Main or Macey's Food and Drug, 972 N. Main St. Registration forms may be sent through e-mail to perkar@wfrmls.com. Pre-registration deadline is June 24. To sign-up fees are $15 (with T-shirt) or $7 (no T-shirt). After June 24 fees are $18 (with T-shirt) and $10 (no T-shirt) and day of the race. Registration on July 4 will be at the LDS church on Skyline beginning at 7 a.m. Volunteers to help with registration and finish line are needed. Marathon runners

The July 4 Kiwanis 5K Freedom Run has been given one guaranteed entry to the St. George Marathon to be give away the day of the race. If you are interested in running in the St. George Marathon and need an entry, please contact Karen Perry at 435-830-7846. Net income from the race will go toward the Kiwanis Club's youth projects. Bands and booths wanted

The fourth annual ThankQ Tooele County event (July 27 and 29) is looking for bands to perform and local vendors to set up booths to sell arts, crafts, etc. Only 15 booth areas and a few slots for bands are available so reserve your spot now. Grantsville

Fourth of July charity

Grantsville City's 4th of July is going to be even more amazing than previous years. As always this event is completely a charity event with all game and ride and carshow funds raised going to Tooele County charities. The parade will start at the Grantsville Cemetery at 11 a.m., ending at the Cherry Street park with the car show and carnival starting and live music starting at the end of the parade. We will have four live bands and more than eight kids rides with games and the counties largest fire works show at 9:30 p.m. Don't miss the counties largest event. Miss Grantsville pageant

Miss Grantsville City Scholarship Pageant will take place June 30 at 7 p.m. at Grantsville High School. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Admittance price is: $4 per person and $2 for senior citizens. All applications must be turned in by no later then, Monday, June 18 at 4 p.m.

Little Miss Grantsville

Any girl interested in competing for Little Miss Grantsville there will be a mandatory meeting for girls and their parents Monday, June 18 at 6 p.m. at the Baird residence 200 E. Main in Grantsville. Competition is open to those girls who have completed grades 1-6. Competition will include street wear, talent, party dress and an on-stage interview. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

The Benson Gristmill Performing Arts Foundation are holding auditions their performance of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." Auditions for the Aug. 10, 11 and 13 performances are scheduled for Thursday, June 14 at 6 p.m. at the Janis Smart Memorial Library in Tooele and Friday, June 15 at 6 p.m. at the GHS north portable classroom in Grantsville. The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to help meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs, adults and children, are welcome. Mystery story contest

Attention all teens, check out our Web site at http://tooelecity.org/tcl/library.html for the first chapter of our mystery story which began May 22. Enter your writing of the third chapter by June 20, and the fourth chapter no later than July 3. Our judges are ready and eager to read your chapters. Each winning chapter will be available to read on-line and in a book kept at the library. If you need help accessing our web page the library staff can help.

Children's programs

On June 26 at 6 p.m. will be our "Pink Panther Scavenger Hunt," see if you can locate all the objects and get a reward for your detective skills. One more fun program for kids ages 6 through 12 is the Hogle Zoo Outreach program. This program has limited seating and tickets will be requested at the door. Don't be left out!

Free plant pest help

The Master Gardener organization is offering free plant pest help on Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. throughout the growing season. Bring samples to the USU Extension office at 151 N. Main St., or call during those hours for help with gardening problems.

Adult education

Get your high school diploma this year! All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers' education and English as a second language are available. English as a second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Adult Education Learning Center, 76 S. 1000 West. ESOL students may come anytime the center is open for Individualized study with our software programs and textbooks. The book fee is $25 per semester.

Caregiver guide classes

Do you care for a family member or friend who has a mental illness? The June Caregiver Guide Class will be dealing with this sometimes difficult and sensitive issue. Caregiver Guide Classes are held monthly to help you to provide hands-on training with a wide range of topics changing monthly. The meeting also provides a support system for caregivers in the community. Next class will be Tuesday, June 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Tooele Senior Citizens Center, 59 E. Vine St. Refreshments will be served. Trunk Show

The Tooele County Quilters will be have a Trunk Show on Tuesday, June 19 at 9 a.m. at the extension service auditorium. The Trunk Show will feature Story Book Quilts by Corey Kund. Everyone is invited. Call Marilyn Housley 882-5384 for information.

Sewing guild meeting

The monthly meeting will be on Wednesday, June 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium of the extension office. We will have a demonstration showing how to make a vest from a sweatshirt and trim it with chenille. Hands on application will be offered. Come join us for an interesting new technique. Anyone interested in sewing is invited to attend. There is no charge to attend and there are no supplies to bring. You can bring any "show and tell" you have. Carnival fundraiser

The MOMS Club of Tooele Valley is holding a Family Fun Carnival fundraiser to benefit the Tooele County Children's Justice Center. It will be held at Elton Park located at 400 N and Broadway in Tooele on Saturday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Carnival will include food sales, a silent auction of items and services donated by local businesses, free identification kits donated by Farmer's Insurance, children's games and activities.
