Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Tooele have new open recreation hours which will begin on Monday, Aug. 27 at the Dow James building, 438 W. 400 N. It serves all youth ages 6-18. The Teen Center is also open Tuesday through Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Tooele Youth Center, 102 N. 7th St. which serves all teens 13-18 years old. The membership fee is $10 per year. End of summer swim party

Tooele City Family Recreation is sponsoring an End of Summer Family Swimming Party at the Pratt Aquatic Center on Monday, Aug. 13 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. The cost will be $5 per family to swim. All families that register that evening will get free ice cream. (This is a family event. All youth must be accompanied by an adult. Animal-lovers wanted. Tooele Animal Outreach is a local animal rescue group that needs new volunteers, particularly caring people to provide loving foster homes, along with a new foster home coordinator. Bowling leagues

We are getting ready to start a new season of bowling at Buddys. We need new bowlers for Tuesday Morning Bowling Belles. We start at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4. It is a ladies handicap league. THS Class of 1962

THS registration

2007-2008 Tooele High School Registration will be held for returning District students Aug. 7-10. Students will receive information sent to their homes before these dates. Senior registration will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7; Juniors, Wednesday, Aug. 8; Sophomores, Thursday, Aug. 9; Freshmen, Friday, Aug. 10 each day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. If you have more than one student attending THS, you are welcome to attend on the day that is most convenient for you. Online registration will begin on Aug. 6, you may access the district Web site: www.tooelesd.org with the information you will receive in the mail. Lunch personnel will also be available to help you on those days. Yearbook pictures will be taken during registration in the small gym.

New student registration

New student registration will be Aug. 13 and 14. You will need a copy of your birth certificate, immunization records and a transcript from your previous school. If the student is not living with his/her parents they must show proof that they have temporary guardianship of the student. This can be taken care of at the county courthouse.

Clarke N. Johnsen Jr. High

Seventh grade registration will be held on Friday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. - noon. Please bring a copy of your updated immunizations to registration with you. Remember if you fill out the documentation on-line please bring your receipt with you to pay fees. New Student Registration, for students moving into the district, will be held on Friday, Aug. 10 from 1-6 p.m. Please bring a copy of your birth certificate, a current copy of your immunizations and the name and address of your previous school.

THS class of '67 reunion

The Tooele High School class of 1967 will be holding its 40th year reunion activities over the Labor Day weekend. A gathering is planned for Friday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. in the pavilion located at the first flat in Settlement Canyon. This will be a very casual evening of visiting with classmates and listening to oldies music. There is no need to pre-register your attendance for this activity. A golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1 at 8 a.m. at the Oquirrh Hills Golf Course. This will be an 18 hole shotgun scramble. Also on Saturday, a dinner is planned that evening at the Eagle's Nest, Tooele Army Depot starting at 5:30 p.m. The events of the evening will include dinner, dancing, a remembrance of the deceased classmates and a salute to those classmates who served in the military. Adult religion classes

Dance location change

The dance that is on Aug. 11 from 8 to 10:30 p.m. will now be held at the Tooele East Stake Center, 751 N. 520 E., Tooele.

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to help meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs, adults and children, are welcome. Library closed

The Tooele City Library will be closed the week of Aug. 14 through 18 for inventory. No books will be due during this time. The book drops will be checked each day. We will reopen to the public on Aug. 21. Thank you for your cooperation.

Tooele friends of the library bookstore, through August we have hard back books for 50 cents, a good selection of large print books, and many children's books for 25 cents. Hours are Tuesday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday 1 to 7 p.m. Come in and browse.

Adult education

Get your high school diploma this year. All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers' education and English as a second language are available. English as a second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. ESOL students may come anytime the center is open for Individualized study with our software programs and textbooks. The book fee is $25 per semester.

Hunter ed classes

A Utah Hunter Education Class will be held at the Grantsville Fire Station. Classroom dates are Aug. 9, 14, 16, 21, and 23. The shooting test is Aug. 25. Caregiver guide classes

If you are a caregiver for a family member or friend who is aging, chronically ill, has a disability or mental illness then these free monthly classes are for you. Sewing guild

The Tooele neighborhood sewing guild group will have our monthly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 15 beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the extension office auditorium. Our program will be a demo on "edgy coverup" for a sweatshirt. This is something new and interesting so plan on coming.
