Name: Judy Garbett
From: Hurricane
To: Tooele
Judy Garbett and her husband moved down to Hurricane when her son enrolled in Dixie State College. When he moved back upstate his parents decided there was no reason for them to stay down south, so they decided to move closer to family and friends by settling in the Tooele Valley.
"We've got kids and grandkids here," Garbett said. "We'd visited friends when we were newlyweds that lived in Tooele, and we still have friends here."
Garbett works at A Cut Above beauty salon in Tooele as a cosmetologist specializing in pedicures and reflexology. Although she's given up styling hair she enjoys massaging her clients feet and making them feel good.
The mild winters is the only thing Garbett misses about her southern home.
"It's definitely colder here in the winter, but the people here are real and very friendly," she said.
Despite her dislike of the new pet ordinance, Garbett said she still enjoys the area.
"I'm not too happy about the new pet ordinance, but it's still a great community where you want to be."
Garbett said she feels privileged to live here.
"I don't think we realize how lucky we are," she said. "We're a hop away from Salt Lake and I can't wait to wake up in the morning with a cup of coffee, sit out on my porch and look at the autumn mountains. I just love Tooele."
