Robert-F--Aragon

Our beloved Robert F. Aragon has passed from this life to join family and friends in whatever the next has to offer. He died Saturday, May 3, 2008 from complications of a full and adventurous life. He was born May 19, 1951 in Tooele to Jake and Gertrude Aragon.

He was raised with his brothers and sisters in the Tooele neighborhoods of New Town, Edgemont and Tortilla Flats (TF). It was in these neighborhoods that he met many lifelong friends. Tortilla Flats was a place he considered his home and he held it in high regard. He was a man who did not let anyone intimidate him; he always stood up for his beliefs and his people. Tooele is a better place for many because of the changes Robert helped to bring.

Robert attended school in Tooele and in 1969 served a two year commitment with the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He returned back to Tooele and worked at the Tooele Army Depot and started his education at the University of Utah. Robert became involved with Socio, a Spanish organization where he was politically active in the student movement in the community.

He worked as a paralegal for a few years while in Tooele. His lifelong goal was to become a successful attorney but his dream was never fulfilled because of other pressing issues life had to offer.

Robert married Marcella Vigil on April 30, 1970 and together they had four children; Marty, Danny, Jesus and Stephanie. They later divorced but remained life long friends. He had a total of 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He left Tooele around 1980 and moved to New Mexico, where he pursued his education at the University of New Mexico. He earned his Bachelors degree in political science. While he was there he worked as a Civil Rights Specialist for the New Mexico Department of Labor.

His New Mexico adventure lasted nearly 20 years and then he returned to Tooele to be closer to his family. He did not speak of a favorite position for they all offered some form of personal growth and an opportunity to meet new people. Robert was an amazing individual who lived life just as he wanted. If you ever met him you would be treated with as much respect as you gave.

He rode motorcycles most all his life and loved every mile of it. He loved to read books and watch gory Sci-fi movies. He liked discussing current world issues and politics. He always had a special place in his heart for his family. He spent most of his time with his brother Kiko; they have been an inseparable pair for many years. Robert was a member of St. Marguerites Catholic Church.

He is survived by his children, Marty (Michelle) Aragon, Danny (Tina) Aragon, Jesus Aragon, and Stephanie Aragon (DeHerrera) His parents, Jake and Gertrude Aragon, brothers, Frank “Kiko” Aragon, Frankie Aragon, Rudy Aragon and sisters Tessie (Joe) Santistevan and Monica (Jose) Lozano. He is also survived by countless relatives and friends who loved him tremendously.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Anthony and Eddie Aragon, his granddaughter Angela Aragon, a nephew Anthony Aragon, his paternal and maternal grandparents and many other friends and relatives.

A viewing and rosary will be held at the St. Marguerites Catholic Church Wednesday, May 7, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services at St. Marguerites will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Tooele City Cemetery (Area 51). A motorcycle procession will lead the hearse from the church to the cemetery; all are invited to ride to pay tribute to Robert.
