To: Stansbury Park
Outside of Tooele County, the world seems to revolve a little faster. Every day is filled with trying to accomplish more and more. For Melanie and Sid Nixon, they prefer the slower-paced life of Tooele County.
Melanie, 26, and Sid, 27, along with their 4-month-old daughter Avery, moved to Stansbury Park from Boise, Idaho, a little over two months ago.
Originally, Sid and Melanie lived in Salt Lake City. Shortly before getting married to Melanie three years ago, Sid's employer, Hardwoods Specialty Products -- a lumber warehouse -- transferred him to Boise. They lived in Idaho until Sid was transferred back to Salt Lake.
"Salt Lake City is just too busy and too fast," she said. "Out here, we are still close enough to Salt Lake that it is a quick drive."
Nixon loves that Stansbury has the small-town feel.
"We love that the community feels safe. We've had to start thinking about that now that we have Avery," said Nixon.
She used to work with the American Red Cross Association, but since the coming of her baby, she has decided to stay at home. To make up for the income difference, her husband has decided to teach guitar lessons in the evenings.
Nixon also loves that Stansbury has welcomed them with open arms.
"People are already starting to wave at us while we are driving down the road, and we already feel at home," she said.
Having lived in the county for two months, the Nixons haven't found anything about the community that they dislike.
"So far we like everything about life here," said Nixon.
However, no family can move from a place they called home without leaving something behind.
"We miss our friends and that we had a lot of water and trees, but we can make up for that," said Nixon.
The Nixons also live closer to family now that they have moved to Stansbury.
"We've been able to visit our parents in Cedar City on the weekends, which has been great," said Nixon.
