Ruth Cox Matthews, age 97, passed away April 13, 2008 at her home in Grantsville. Ruth was born June 30, 1910 in Manti, to George Byron and Charlotta Antoinette Madsen Cox.

She married George P. Matthews on August 23, 1939 in Manti. Ruth received her Bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and taught elementary school in Grantsville for 27 years. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings.

She is survived by her son, Dean C. (Betty) Matthews; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son George Lee Matthews; her brothers Byron Cox, Ray Cox and Carrol Cox; and her sister Veda Jensen.

At Ruth’s request, a graveside service for family and friends will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Grantsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to The Donner-Reed Museum, c/o Grantsville City, 429 E. Main, Grantsville, Utah 84029.
